Day 25 of Ripped in 30

Well I didn't get up at my 4am wake up call.  But both of the girls went down for a long nap and so I was able to get a workout in this afternoon during nap time.

I have to say.  This week is tough, but I find myself rising to the challenge and pushing harder then I have ever before.  I am ACTUALLY starting to enjoy it.

OK......maybe "enjoy" is a bit much.  But I am not "hating" it which is a definite change of heart.

Thoughts for Today:

1. Sometimes chanting "just keep going" is all I have to get through some of these tough exercises!
2. Although I haven't been measuring (saving that for day 30) I did notice that I have now gone down a notch on my belt!

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Garden Challenge

Well spring is here and that means.......time to garden!  (I know......all of my family and friends reading this from Canada are shaking their fists mittens at me......sorry)

Of course as always, you are more then welcome to come for a visit to thaw out :)

One of the blogs that I follow is homeschoolcreations.com which is a wonderful site with great resources for homeschooling education.  I have printed many of the lap books that she has put together for Renae.  The current lap book that we are starting is The Garden Preschool Pack which I just know Renae is going to LOVE!

The games and activities in this pack are too cool and I will post more about it as we go along.  I plan on starting this on Monday.  However, there is also a bonus lesson pack that she is offering when you link up for the Garden Challenge being offered on http://www.thehomeschoolvillage.com/category/hsv-garden-challenge and I am so excited to jump on this project with Renae.

Now, as you know, I don't have the greenest thumb on the planet but we are going to have a blast trying!  Renae is going to help me keep our current plants alive growing by learning what a plant needs to live (soil, water, and sunshine).

We have also started a new project.  I had those daisy seed packets from the wedding that I still hadn't planted and I thought this would be a perfect way to introduce gardening from seeds to Renae!

First we got a pot that I had in the garage and filled it with some potting soil.  I also showed Renae the holes in the bottom and explained how the water needs to drain so that the soil/dirt doesn't stay too wet.  Then Renae made holes in the soil with her thumb.  She really liked this part!

And then she placed each flower pod into each hole.

Finally we covered the pods with dirt and gave them plenty of water.  Now I just need to keep my fingers crossed that the seeds are going to grow.  Wish us luck!  Check back at the end of April for our progress!

HSV Garden Challenge

I also have attached a button link so that you can check out everyone else's gardening projects that are participating in the challenge.

Day 24 of Ripped in 30

Today was a great workout!  Yep, you heard me right.....great.

I was able to do something today that I was most definitely NOT able to do when I started this Ripped in 30 adventure.

It might not sound like much to you but for me.....this is HUGE.

When I started I had no lower abdominal strength.  I am serious......none.  Most likely due to the c-section and then lack of .......ok ok ok.....no exercise.  So when Jillian did any abdominal exercise where you had to lay on the ground and then lift you feet off the ground......well....I couldn't do it.  No matter how hard I tried.

........but today.......I did it!  It was monumental to me!

Thoughts for today:

1.  I have ab muscles again!
2. .....no other thoughts but thought one.  Yeah me!

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 23 of Ripped in 30

Well here it is.  Week 4!
Whoohoo.  I know that I still have the whole week to put forth until the 30 days is complete but there is something celebratory about knowing that the finish line is right there.  That I can almost touch it.

On the other hand.  This video was tough.  Jillian definately saved the worst for last.

As I have said before......the first day is tough because I don't know what to expect so I tend to miss half of the workout because I am stopped and watching what they want me to do.

That said, I think I did pretty good for my first run through.  I pushed harder then I have been as of late and I am looking forward to going full out tomorrow (...hmmmm, that's new).

Thoughts for Today:

1. Down to the last week......yeah me!
2. I was still achy from the last workout that I did.  But I felt much more loosen up by the end of today's workout.
3. Have a feeling that I will be hurting again tomorrow

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Menu Plan Monday

Ok, Sure.....I know it is TUESDAY and this is called Menu Plan MONDAY.  But hey, I live on the wild side!

Well, as is typical in my world.....we are living in AMANDA time.  Which means, I typically plan more then I can do in a day and so some things have no choice but get bumped despite my best intentions.

Sorry.

So, without further ado.........here is this week's menu plan:

Monday - Chili (trying a new chili recipe that is supposed to be better for you from the Eating for Life cookbook)
Tuesday - Curry Chicken with Broccoli (Was supposed to have this last week but didn't get a chance to make it)
Wednesday - Sheppard's Pie
Thursday - Teriyaki Chicken and Broccoli
Friday - Spaghetti
Saturday - Pot Roast (Also got bumped last week)
Sunday - Hushia (Also got bumped last week - Recipe to be posted later this week)

As you can see.  The menu plan is a guide to help you with your shopping and planning throughout the day and week. However, as life throws you curve balls I change it as needed or if you have a creative moment (like great weather on Sunday and wanted to barbecue instead) and want to try something new I can make adjustments as needed.  But by doing this you save money at the grocery store and you avoid the what-are-we-going-to-have-for-supper dilemma at 5pm.

Do you do a meal plan? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Day 22 of Ripped in 30

Well, slightly different work schedule this week and had to work today instead.

So......no workout for today.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 21 of Ripped in 30

Well, this is the last workout for week three.  I must admit that I am a little nervous of what the hardest workout week will entail but we shall see.

However, today was a good workout.

Thoughts for today:

1.  Still always ready for a nap after but I do think my endurance has improved some.
2.  Wish me luck going into week 4

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 20 of Ripped in 30

I did get up at 6 this morning and got my workout in before the kiddos got up so I was greatful that I was able to get it in.

Thoughts for today:

1.  It is so hard to get up before the kids but I am always glad that I did once I am up

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Old Fashioned Beef Stew

Flag of Newfoundland and Labrador (Canada)

Well, on Monday's Meal Plan Post I mentioned that I would be posting the recipe for the Beef Stew that I would be making.

..........of course, I  did say that I would post this on Wednesday.  But.....that's life in the fast lane with two littles around :)

Sorry, better late then never.

Norm's mom sends us these wonderful cookbooks every Christmas filled with Newfoundland recipes and they are wonderful!

Thank you Mrs. Burt!

So this recipe comes from one of those books.  Specifically, "What's Cooking At Grand Bank" put together from the Grand Bank Cancer Unit.

It was my first time doing this recipe and it turned out wonderful.  The only thing was that since I was going to be in and out all day I did it in the crock pot so that I could set it and forget it.  The recipe states to cover and simmer on the stove.  The stew turned out wonderful the way that I did it but the gravy didn't thicken up.  So I transferred it into a pot after to bring to a boil and then it came out beautifully.  Also, the stew was a bit fresh so it really could use a bit more salt then the recipe called for.  Other then that, simple and great tasting!

Old Fashioned Beef Stew

1 tsp Salt                                                                 3 cups water
2 tsp Accent                                                            2 Onions
1/8 tsp Pepper                                                         4 Medium Carrots
1/4 cup Flour                                                           4 Potatoes
2 lb Stewing Beef                                                     4 Turnips, slices
1/4 cup Margarine

Blend 1/2 teaspoon salt, Accent, pepper and flour.  Toss pieces of meat in flour mixture.  Reserve leftover flour.  Melt butter in a Dutch oven over medium heat.  Add beef and brown.  Add water and 1/2 teaspoon salt.  Cover and simmer about 2 hours or until tender.  Add vegetables, cover and simmer until vegetables are tender.  If necessary, add enough flour to reserve to make 2 tablespoons.  Combine with 3 tablespoons water and stir to a smooth paste.  Gradually add to stew and cook, stirring constantly until gravy thickens.

Enjoy!

Let me know what you think if you try it.  Would love to hear your thoughts.

Day 19 of Ripped in 30

Well, I am back in the saddle again!

OK.......in effort to keeping honest.......I almost wasn't.  I sort of slammed pressed the snooze bar.....and then later turned off the alarm when it went off at 4am.  However, I did get up when Norm did to get ready for the day.  And after he left I decided to try and squeeze a workout in before the girls got up.

I was interrupted about half way from an emergency potty call from Renae.  But then was able to finish up after!  (which I wasn't complaining about because, as it happens, it was during the start of the lie down-kick feet up-then back to a standing position that I love .....oh so much!)

Yeah Me!

Thoughts for today:

1.  I was actually "tuning out" Jillian and chanting to myself.....just keep moving, just keep moving
2.  I must be doing something right because my thighs were burning like crazy (no comments from the peanut gallery - this is a FAMILY blog.....lol)

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 18 of Ripped in 30

Well, today is a work day which means.

No Workout!!!!!  yeahhhhhhhh!

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 17 of Ripped in 30

There is no excuse for my behavior.

I should have worked out today.

......but I didn't.

I do feel a little guilty.  But, I guess not enough for me to do anything about it. ;)

Will aim higher on Friday (tomorrow is a work day and all)

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 16 of Ripped in 30

Well the girls are sick........yeah, again.  This time Renae has strep throat and an ear infection, which keeps her out of daycare for 24hrs until she is no longer contagious........yeah, again.  Dakota fortunately only has a cold.

Soooooo, since I am home today I guess I won myself an extra date with Jillian.

Ok, so really it is a make up day since I did decide to take that extra day off on Sunday.

I am proud of myself though.  I worked real hard today.  .....I "showed up" if you will.

Thoughts for today:

1.  It's hard to get up and do this at 4am.  But, once I am up and have the workout done I am glad that I did it.
2.  still only got one in of the lie down/legs up in the air then back down and jump up.....in the time that Jillian did the whole set.   I just can't move that fast!
3.  As before, today was a little better now that I knew what to expect.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 15 of Ripped in 30

"Welcome to week 3 of Ripped in 30" is how Jillian started the video today!

As you know, I was apprehensive to watch/do this video and after trying to keep up with her my fears were proven right.

She warned me.  I can't say she didn't.  In the very first video she said that weeks 1 and 2 were to teach you form and weeks 3 and 4 are where she plans to make you "bring it".

Don't just show up she says.  Well.......that is all that I did today.  I could barely keep up with the woman.  I think I looked as coordinated as a blind person, with my shoes tied together.  And I think that person STILL would have looked a little more graceful than I.

So, I have come to terms with the fact that I am not Grace Kelly.  But I knew that I was going to be in trouble this week when the warm up was a challenge!

Oh well, here is hoping that as I learn the routine I can dig deeper and "bring it" =)

Thought for Today:

1.  I am starting to dislike Jillian
2.  Apparently I can do one lie down kick legs up in care and stand back up again........in the time that she has done the whole set!
3.  Ouch

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Menu Plan Monday

One of the weekly things that I have gotten into doing is a meal plan.  I do this for several reasons.

It helps me know what to shop for and therefore I don't waste as much food as I used to.  Which equals, saving money

And it solved the 5pm, hmmmmm what am I going to make for supper dilemma, which would lead to the it's too late to take anything out of the freezer so let's just get fast food instead. Which equals, saving money

And finally, I could match up with the sales and bring the right coupons, which equals.....you guessed it .....saving money!

So I thought I would post this weeks menu plan so you can see what I mean.

Once you get used to it, it is pretty easy and quick to do.  I also try to make Tuesday and Thursday meals pretty quick and easy since that is the days that I am usually working. And therefore don't have the day time to get things underway early on.

Now I by no means stick to this 100% of the time so it doesn't make it as rigid as you may think.  It just gives me a starting point and then I adjust it as necessary.

On some of the blogs that I have read that do this, the plan out all of their meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner).  Me, I just need help with the, what am I going to have for supper department.  So that is all that I am posting.

Monday - Beef Stew (Traditional Newfoundland Stew at that!) - Recipe to be posted on Wednesday
Tuesday - Sloppy Joe's
Wednesday - Curry Chicken with Broccoli
Thursday - Chicken Nuggets and Fries
Friday - Deluxe Turkey Dinner
Saturday - Pot Roast
Sunday - Hushia

Do you do a meal plan?  I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Dakota is 6 months old today!

Look who is 6 months old today!

Dakota!

Wow, I can't believe a half a year has already gone by!

Stats and Facts:

  • Can roll from front to back (reportedly she can also do the reverse but.....she's been holding out on me since we have yet to see that play in action
  • Will smile and anyone and everyone that will glance in her direction
  • Is VERY ticklish and has the cutest giggle
  • Can sit up unsupported for about 3 min. before tumbling over
  • Studies Renae constantly
  • Loves her exa-saucer
  • Weighing in at 20lbs!

And what did this girlie get on her half birthday?  She got to try green peas for the first time!  ........and loved them.

Happy half birthday sweetheart!

Day 14 of Ripped in 30

Sooooo, I guess you could say that I was a bad girl.

I MEANT to get up at 4 am and workout.  But then I though "you deserve one day this week to not have to get up at 4am"

So then I MEANT to workout at nap time.  But then the girls.....specifically Dakota, didn't settle down for a nap.

So then I MEANT to workout once the girls went down for the night.  But by then I was plum tuckered out and ditched.

Opps.

Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

Day 13 of Ripped in 30

Well, this is the first workout that I have done before working a weekend shift and I gotta say.  I think it would have worked out pretty good.

I say, would have because Dakota woke before I could finish the workout.  And so I had to cut it short to feed her and try to get her settled again.  Which she didn't and then Norm had to get up and finish the job.

But, other then that.......

Oh well, such is the season of life that we are in.  And I don't wish away any of it as I know oh too well how quickly this phase passes.

Thoughts for Today:

1. If nothing else I have noticed that my appitite has jumped up.  I am ALWAYS hungry lately.
2. I need to get more healthy snacks in this house.  Did I mention that I am ALWAYS hungry lately?

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 12 of Ripped in 30

So, Renae did wake in the night but Dakota didn't!  Progress!

And so I don't really have an excuse for why I didn't get up at 4am.....other than.....THAT IS REALLY EARLY!  LOL.

However, after I got up at 5 and helped Norm get ready for work, I managed to still get it done before the girls woke.

Yeah!  Which of course freed up some of my time to catch up on all of the posts that I was behind in.  And so if you want, you can go back and see what my progress has been throughout this week.

So, as far as today's workout went.....it was .....fine.
I say fine, because if I am being honest....I just wasn't in the zone today.  For a few reasons......I just feel a little burnt out already.  Also, because my knees really are starting to hurt.  And lastly, the one time that I did "push it" during today's workout, my sciatic nerve threatened to act up!  So, I backed off.  But as Jillian keeps telling me.....if you don't push and dig deep......you are not going to see results.

Which worries me, because I don't really like working out and so if I am going to do this....then darn it.....it better bring on some results. No matter if I am giving 80% or 110%.  I mean, that is reasonable right?  I showed up.....that should count for something.

I know, I know.........I know the answer to all of this.  Just having a pity party moment..... :)

Thoughts for today:

1. My balance is still .....err.....wobbly at best
2. Jillian's jokes...which I found funny on day 1 of week 2......not so funny now...... :)

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 11 of Ripped in 30

Another no workout day due to work.  I was right about the fact that I should have put in a bigger effort yesterday.  Not really hurting, so I guess that is a sign that I am not trying hard enough.

Thoughts for Today:

1.  I am worried that I will get through this whole thing and not see much of a difference because I only "showed up" and didn't try hard enough.
2. I have noticed that my bad knees are starting to act up

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 10 of Ripped in 30

Well, it was yet another sleepless night so I again didn't get up at 4am but did fit it into the nap time slot.  But Dakota didn't really fall asleep so I don't feel that it was a great workout because I was constantly pausing to be sure she was ok.

Thoughts for Today:

1.  This workout could really be a killer if I pushed harder.
2.  Next time will do this in the "playroom" where it is carpeted and therefore, quieter

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Day 9 of Ripped in 30

Well, today is back to work and so I didn't workout today.  And it is a good thing too......another broken sleepless night!

Thoughts for today:

1.  I expected to be hurting more today.  Hmmm, probably didn't put in 100% since I didn't know the routine.
2.  Surprisingly, looking forward to doing the workout tomorrow......that's something new

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Monday, March 14, 2011

Day 8 of Ripped in 30

So today was the first day of Week 2.

Well, apparently the time change has effected both of the girls since the both woke up several times in the night.  Long night to say the least.  SOOOOO, when the alarm went off at 4am for my workout......yeah, can you say snooze bar!  But I did manage to get the girls down for nap and did my workout then.

So?  How was the workout you ask?

Hmmmm......how do I put this.........WHEW I am glad I made it through!  Definitely it stepped up in difficulty.  I was back to being a bumbling uncoordinated bimbo as well!  haha

Thoughts for Today:

1.  I didn't realize that I have NO sense of balance....lol
2.  I am going to hurt tomorrow
3.  I think there are a couple of exercises that I can do at the advanced level!  Bonus!

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 7 of Ripped in 30

Well I feel better today and so I figured I would attempt to try to get back on track today.   However, since it is the weekend and all I decided to try and fit it into nap time.

.......which worked.......for the most part.  Renae didn't wake up till the workout was just about through.

So, I call it a success.

Thought for today:

1.  This workout is getting easier.  I even tried a few of the "advanced" version of the different exercises.
2.  Since this it the last day for week 1, I am worried about what tomorrow is going to bring
3.  Didn't want to workout but now that it is done, I am glad that I did it.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 6 of Ripped in 30

Well this will be a short post.

I had been sitting on the fence on whether or not I was going to get up and work out after not getting any sleep by midnight.

Which......turned into a resounding "NO, not gonna happen Jillian" when the plague GI Bug hit me at 1am!

Don't worry, I am already on the road to recovery (seems to be a 24hr thing).

On a positive note....I have a highly effective but not recommended weight loss program :P

Lost 5lbs in 24hrs!

Crazy.

Well better luck tomorrow.

(Not going to say anything more about the Burt illness running through this house due to someone....not mentioning any names....is afraid that I will "Jinx" them)

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Friday, March 11, 2011

Renae is sick

Well, it's official.  Renae is sick as well.

Fortunately it appears that this is only a 24 hour bug since Dakota seems fine now.

Fingers crossed that this is the case.

Well, 2 down.....hopefully it goes no further then that.  Otherwise, working out tomorrow is really going to suck.  Hahaha!  Kidding.

My New Year's Resolutions.....Better late then never

In a couple of posts I have already mentioned that I had made a TON of new years resolutions this year.  But it occurred to me that I hadn't really posted what they were/are.

Now, I could have just made it generalized, like I have in the past.  But I read that you will be more successful in keeping a resolution/goal, the more detailed you make them. So instead of "The List" that you will see below, in the past I would have just said that I plan to "Get More Healthy".

Soooooo, in effort to keep me accountable I have decided to post them today and then I also thought that each month I will give a status update to show how it is all coming along!

So, without further ado:

Presenting................My List

Personal: 1. Start an exercise routine and stick with it
                2. Cut down/out sweets
                3. Join/participate in a Book Club
                4. Blog regularly (at least weekly)

Family:     1. Do a monthly "Date Night" with Norm
                2. Increase playtime with Renae and Dakota
                3. Do a mommy/Renae date once a month
                4. Increase teaching with Renae and create a teaching plan

Home:      1. Create a cleaning schedule and stick with it
                2. De-clutter
                3. Get more indoor house plants and keep them alive for one year
(trying to cultivate a green thumb - currently it is near black....lol)
                4. Create a homemaker binder

Financial: 1. Decrease eating out
                2. Start using envelope system (David Ramsey)
                3. Create/stick with a budget
                4. Increase savings/have a fully funded emergency fund
                5. Restart Investments
                6. Start college funds for the girls
                7. Start increase in payments for house pay off
                8. Save for new car for Norm
                9. Cut grocery budget in half

Well, that is all of it.

Too ambitious?  Maybe.

I made this list with the thought that most of this needs to be done by the end of the year.  Not necessarily started on January 1.

So come April 1st I will give you update/progress report.

How about you?  Did you make any resolutions?  If so, how are they coming along?  What are you doing to keep your motivation?

Day 5 of Ripped in 30

Well, here we are again.  I made it through another workout.  But truly I was not "feeling it" today.  I got up at 4:30 because I was avoiding the inevitable.  I really had no other excuse.  I went to bed at a good time.  No kids got me out of bed.  (Actually, Renae did wake up but Norm took that round......thank you babe).

Just good 'ol procrastination!

But I did it so that has to count for something.

Thoughts for Today:

1.Ugggg......It can't be 4am ALREADY. Not feeling it Jillian
2. Did it with the lowest weights in Norm's set.......not light enough.  Need to add to the "to do" list.....Buy girlie weights :)
3. I am glad I did it.  But didn't think this till it was all over.

It did occur to me though that I never posted my "before" numbers so here it is:

Right Arm: 10 3/4"
Left Arm: 11"
Hips: 37"
Waist: 31"
Legs: 21 1/2"
Chest: 40"
Shoulders: 40"
Weight: 157 lbs (thanks to my fabulous breastfeeding diet!)

So we shall do a comparison at the end of 30 days........which right now seems like a VERY long ways away. ;)

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Dakota's sick

Well, if you are wondering why I had time to get my posts caught up today, it is because I am already home from work.

I had a feeling that I was going to get a call because when I was dropping off the girls at daycare this morning.  Dakota spit up/vomited a pretty decent amount of milk.

But, she was still smiling and cooing right after (so much like Renae is personality, it's scary) and she didn't have a fever.  So, I thought.....well......let's just see what happens.

She took her morning bottle fine.  Went for nap.  Got up and then proceeded to vomit (no question this time) 2 times.  AND started having diarrhea.  Poor sweet baby.

Anyway, I am playing Mommy/nurse and have both the girls down for nap.

Wish me luck that I can keep this bad boy bug under wraps and not have the whole house sick this weekend.

Fingers crossed.

Day 4 of Ripped in 30

Well, I got up this morning and I wasn't in NEARLY as much pain as I was after day 1!  Mostly it was my Right shoulder, my calves and shins that hurt the most.

I don't know for sure but maybe, just maybe it might have something to do with the fact that if I was being completely honest........I might not have put in quite as much of an effort in yesterday's workout until all of the aches and pains loosened up a bit.  So I really only got in a half of a workout.

For tomorrow's workout I plan on giving a 100% again.  PLUS adding some weights that I really should have been doing since day 1 but I convinced myself that I should ease into it and not injure myself.

Thoughts for today:

1.  I am looking forward to seeing how I do with the weights tomorrow
2. Thank goodness that I don't hurt as much today
3.  Yes.....fine.....I will drink more water.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 3 of Ripped in 30

Well, this morning's workout had started out a little rocky.  Dakota woke up at 2:30 and it took me until 3am to get her back down again.

Soooooo, needless to say, when the alarm went off at 4am for me to get up and do my work out......a firm NO was immediately in my head.

But, after a few rude gentle wake up calls after slamming gently tapping the snooze button.  I decided that I better do the deed and get up.

When I started to move I discovered that I was STILL hurting......uggggh.

Thoughts today:

1.  Why am I doing this again?
2.  Hummmm, this already seems a little easier now that I know what to expect
3.  I am tired
4.  I think the stiffness is easing now that I am moving
5.  I don't feel sick to my stomach this morning

So, all in all.  I am glad that I got up to do it.  And it wasn't sooooo bad once I got moving.  However, when Norm was getting ready and I mentioned how tired I was after.  Let's just say all it took was a slight nudge (I don't even think the words were finished coming out of his mouth) to suggest that maybe I should try and lie down for a little while before the girls got up.  Before I was back in bed for an hour cat nap.

Oh well, I guess the house cleaning will have to happen throughout the day or on Friday.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 2 of Ripped in 30

So today is a work day and this means that I am also on a day off from Ms. Jillian Michaels.  And it is a good thing too.

I hurt everywhere!  No joke.

The worst spot is actually to my Right groin of all places !?!

I don't think the human body was meant to do lunges.  Which is what I suspect caused the groin pull.

Anyway, it makes if VERY hard to walk fast and that is what is needed for my job.

Thoughts for today:

1. Ouch
2.  Norm, stop laughing at me :)
3.  I feel like I'm eighty, not 38

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know. If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Day 1 of Ripped in 30

UGGGG.......

Is all I can say.  I knew that I was out of shape.......But I didn't realize I was THAT out of shape!

Thoughts for Day 1:

1. Man, I am not very coordinated
2. I am seriously out of shape
3. Isn't excercise supposed to make you feel good after? Energized? All I want to do is throw-up and take a nap

4. Did make it through 98% of the video without stopping. Only sat out part of the cardio, it was that or pass out.....haha

Time to get this girl into shape!

Sooooooo,  I bought the Jillian Michaels "Ripped in 30" DVD yesterday.  Yeah, me.  I decided it was time to do something productive.  AND, since one of my resolutions was to get into shape....... Well, I figured here we are in March and I still hadn't done ANYTHING towards that goal.  Now I know,  Jillian Michaels.....maybe a bit extreme.  But she promises that if I follow her for 30 days, eat right and give my biggest effort that this bod should be ripped in a month....lol.  K, so I am not expecting "Ripped" but a bit more toned would be nice.  I managed to lose all of my baby weight (30lbs) and then some (another 22lbs) thanks to little breastfeeding!  So, I am thinner, but definitely a little flabby. BUT, I know from when I finished breastfeeding Renae, I dropped the weight, but since I didn't have any good eatting habits, nor did I exercise.....I quickly put the weight back on.  So, we shall see.  I am going to take my measurements before I begin and I will post it on here and then I will do it again at the end.  It will be my little experiment/testimony sort of speak.  I will also post my thoughts daily as I plan to do this 5 days a week (skipping on the days that I work on Tuesday and Thursday).  So check back here for my report.

What are you doing for exercise? If nothing, like I was, and want to join me on my 1 month journey, let me know.  If you want to just cheer me on, I will likely need the support....hahaha. Would love to hear you thoughts.

Dakota 5 1/2 months

Well, I knew that this day was coming........

Guess who is rolling over?  Yep.....game on!

Now so far I have only seen her roll from back to front.  But, the daycare tells me that she is also doing front to back.  She started this on Tuesday but it took this long to get it on tape.  Guess our little girl is camera shy.  Even the video below to 11 takes before we got it!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy this moment as much as we do.  We are so proud of her!

Bitter sweet!

Time seems to be flying.  I can't believe that it is already March AND I can't believe that Dakota is already 5months old!

I wish I could slow time down a bit.  I knew that the time that Dakota is a baby is brief and so I have been doing my best to soak in all of the baby moments that I know will pass in the blink of an eye.

Jody has warned me that it would be sad when one by one the "baby stuff" disappeared.  And so I thought I was prepared.......

This is what Dakota normally does in her papasan chair......

But has now progressed to this......

Most likely because she studies everything big sister does!

And so, it is bitter sweet.  Because I am proud of all that she can do already.  But sad because the first of my baby items is now outgrown and one by one each baby item will slowly (or not so slowly) be disappearing from our home(sigh).

....I've Got That!

Most people know that I have a great love for music.  ALL music really.  So I rarely surprise hubby when we have a party at the house and the topic of music comes up I am always a willing participant.  Or that if someone says "Oh haven't heard "fill in blank" song in ages".....9 times out of 10.  I follow that statement with....."I got that" and quickly put it on for all to enjoy.

But I think I finally surprised him......

One of many reasons I love having children in the house is you get to enjoy Disney movies all over again!

Renae is in love with Disney Princesses.  But her number one favourite is ..........Little Mermaid or as Renae says it "Ariel the Mermaid" (don't tell anyone but it is one of my favourites as well!).  And even though I LOVE this movie I don't own it on DVD.

I Know, I was shocked too!

But I did know that I owned it, on VHS of all things.  It was just a matter of remembering where I put it.  So, I looked in all of the logical spots.  And, not surprisingly, it wasn't anywhere to be found.  So I gave up on it.

Well it just so happened that it was a bit cold here recently and Renae was complaining about how cold her hands were while she was playing outside.  SO, I went into the coat closet and pulled down the basket of hats and gloves and such and low and behold THERE it was! (......doesn't everyone keep random items in a basket in the coat closet?)

Needless to say, Renae was done with playing outside and wanted to watch it IMMEDIATELY!  So, I obliged.  And have played it for her nearly daily ever since (upon her request of course).

.......she also loves all of the music in the little mermaid (who doesn't) and Renae was a little impressed when mama knew all of the words to the songs.  And so, one morning we were about to leave to go to the daycare and she said to me "I wish I could listen to The Little Mermaid in the car."

And which point I countered........."I got that."

So for your viewing pleasure........

........And this one is for you Nicole........

Saving Money

So I have been telling people for a while that one of my resolutions this year was to try and get my grocery budget down.  I was spending $600 per month in groceries and that was BEFORE the baby arrived!  The goal that I set was to cut it in half!

This idea started blossoming in my head around last August when I read an article in our local newspaper about a woman with a family of 9 and how she only spends about $425 per month on groceries! I thought how is that possible?  Well she coupons.  Now I know that you might be rolling your eyes and thinking, ugh, that is too much work or coupons never really save that much money.  And that is what I thought too.  But my stubborn streak kicked in and I thought...."If she can do it...."

So I am trying.  I found out that it is a HUGE learning curve and that there are many elements that you have to put into place to make it work.  Like a meal plan and you have to build up a little stock pile in your pantry.

But slowly, I am starting to see a difference.  I roughly save, on average, about 40% on my groceries now.  So I am fluctuation between $350 and $450 per month.  So....a move in the right direction.

Now I know that some of you reading this are in Canada and so some of this will need adjusting to help you do the same since coupons aren't in an abundance there. (And I am willing to do some research in to this if there is anyone that wants me to) But I am convinced that it could work for everyone.
